Despite the closing of the Leaning Tower the number of visitors to the complex of Piazza dei Miracoli in Pisa keeps on growing. Tourists' influx in the months of July and August 2000 grew in comparison to the same period last year.

The entries to the monuments and museums in Pisa have been, in fact, 495,100 in 2000 against 493,000 in 1999. This last datum is reported as of August 21, while as it regards the month of July the entries have altogether been 210,300 (July 99) against the 265,125 last July, an increase of about 25%. In August 1999 the tourists that entered the monuments and museums had been 285,500 in August 1999 against 225,000 of this month's first twenty days.

The most popular is the Cathedral, where, in the days of the August Bank Holiday (14 and 15), 15,200 people have entered. Then follows the Baptistery, the Old Cemetery, the Museum of the Opera and the Sinopie. The tourists are also attracted by the work around the Leaning Tower, where on any given day they may be interested in the exterior conservation. (ANSA).
