Pisa Stops for 20 Minutes Under its Symbol, in Silent Concentration PISA. "From the Tower to the towers". In these simple but meaningful five words there is total solidarity and grief from the whole political-administrative, religious, cultural and social community of Pisa. This afternoon from 2:45 until 3:05 PM, a moment of silent concentration for the facts of terror happened in the United States will be held under our Tower, the symbol of our city,. A dense silence of emotion preceded and concluded emotion by the sound of the fire siren and by the toll of the bells. The Commune, the Province, the Curia Arcivescovile, the University, the Normal Superior School and the School of Sant'Anna invite all the citizens to grieve for the pain that the thousands of American families are bearing for the death of their families in the dramatic events of 11 September. The words of archbishop Alexander Plotti: "That in silence, our hearts and thoughts are turned to intentions of solidarity, peace, justice and pardon. Words are, in this emergency, superfluous in front of the enormous tragedy". As the mayor, Paolo Fontanelli, defines the intents of the initiative, saying: "we will remember the victims with reflection and concentration, the wounded and all those people that have been disrupted by this event and those people that are working in the places of the slaughter". Fire fighter heros. The siren of our firemen could not postpone our reflection to the hundreds of innocent Americans that have lost their life in the fulfillment of their offices. Closed vendor stalls. For the initiative, in a sign of mourning, the operators at the Cathedral and the Anva Confesercenti and the vendor stalls of Piazza dei Miracoli will be closed, posting a sign with the following bilingual wording: "No to the terrorism. Solidarity with the American people". Once more therefore, the entire Pisan community is joined in reflection around the mourning of the American families. A few days ago, in fact, involving the principal administrative positions of the Province and Community, a meeting in room of the Province of Pisa was held, "A. Maccarrone" where at the end of the debate, a document was compiled and was approved of great emotional pregnancy and of solidarity in favor of the American people.
