A demonstration today against the war in Middle East PISA. Ten minutes of silence interrupted only by the sound of the bells of the Leaning Tower. This afternoon at 3:00 PM, the City and Province of Pisa together with the Curia Arcivescovile and the city university will remember the victims of the war in the Middle East. The demonstration entitled "A Toll for Peace" will begin with a procession from Piazza of the Cavalry at 2:30 PM. Numerous political personalities and the city's acedmicians have joined the procession. "The Tower, an expression of harmony and beauty that resists the centuries, is a symbol of peace", said mayor of Pisa Paul Fontanelli and the president of the province Gino Nunes, "and today we want to recall the attention of the world on the endless massacre that involves Israelis and the Palestinians". This is the appeal launched by the demonstration. "It is not correct to be indifferent to the war, because by now of drawn aside war, between Palestinians and Israelis. We want to keep the arms silent, so that truce arrives and the UN resolutions are enforced. The awareness grows that the road toward peace will arrive through the full recognition of two people and two Nations. No military victory will assure stability and cohabitation in the area. The peace of the three University city is important for us because Pisa, city of culture, civilization and youth wants to give voice to the many young people that fill its classrooms and its streets but also to its citizens and to all those people who feel opposed to this war and want to eliminate it from their future. We feel the duty to answer the barbarity in Middle East, where today the conditions of life of the two people do not provide hope for tomorrow. That is why we return under the Tower in the Piazza dei Miracoli where each day citizens of all the world are present and where in September great numbers have manifested the scorn for the attacks on the Twin Towers. This Piazza is witness in front of the world that peace and the cohabitation between the people is possible".
