Tower, Five Wells to Drain the Soil Stratum

Il Tirreno Giornale
(PISA, Italia, Wednesday 24 April 2002 )

Near the Leaning Tower, programmed work has been initiated by the Committee presided over by engineer Michele Jamiolkowski for the installation of five wells to control the drainage of the soil stratum. Rainwater, in this way, will be collected and drained away through a plumbing main.

The wells, with a diameter of about 1.3 meters and a depth of four meters, will be installed generally northeast of the bell tower. The work, performed by the firm Rodio Spa of San Donato Milanese, will have a duration of about a month and a half. During this period the Tower will be regularly open to the public.
